Get listed on Apple Maps

Making sure your practice is listed accurately on Google Maps is a key part of any search marketing strategy. After all, everybody can use Google Maps to find their nearest vet, right? Wrong!

With the release of IOS6, Google Maps has been replaced on millions of iPhones, iPads and the iPod touch with Apple's own map tool.

At the time of writing (November 2012) the business listings currently included on Apple Maps are not certain to be accurate, and many businesses may find they are not listed at all. Furthermore, there is no official advice from Apple about how to rectify the issue.

To avoid missing out on what could be a large pool of potential new clients, we recommend that veterinary practices take the following steps to get your details included accurately in Apple Maps:

  1. Use the "report a problem" link in the Apple Maps app following these instructions
  2. Add a new business entry to Yelp
  3. Add a new business entry to Tom Tom Places

We cannot guarantee which of these steps will have the most impact, nor how long it will take for your business to be included in Apple Maps listings, but following these practical steps should put you in good stead.

Update: December 2012

Google has now released its Maps app for the iPhone. Read the full article: Google Maps back on iPhone after Apple software fiasco on the BBC website.

It's still worth following the steps above to cater for those people who may still use Apple Maps, but the return of Google Maps is helpful for everyone!
